Coaching

With a number of qualified coaches, a talented group of skilled and experienced players, our club is able to offer one of the strongest and most supportive pétanque communities in the region.

We organise coaching workshops focused on developing playing skills, techniques, and tactics. These sessions are designed to provide constructive, positive instruction and encouragement for anyone looking to improve their game.

We also actively encourage player participation and input, ensuring that every session takes place in a friendly, enjoyable atmosphere.

In addition to structured coaching, our experienced club members are always happy to offer informal help and advice whenever needed.

Top Tips to think about when throwing a boule

Grip/how to hold the boule

Like cupping water, fingers together, with boule resting in the palm of the hand.

Overgrasp.

Stance/feet position

Feet slightly apart with playing side foot forward and pointing towards the target.

Balance

Important to be stable throughout the delivery action.

Backswing and downswing

Adequate take back of the playing arm.

Arm straight on downswing. Keep smooth as possible throughout the whole action.

The landing spot

Identify the exact place where you intend to land your boule (the “donnée”) and play to this.

Release of the boule

Feel the boule on finger tips as it leaves the hand. This helps to create the desired backspin for control.

The height of release is determined by the type of delivery intended. Follow through towards the target.

Adjustment

Watch carefully after the boule has left your hand until it comes to rest.

According to that result, decide on any adjustment needed for following deliveries.

Use of non-playing arm

Actively use to help with balance.

Relax!

Maintain focus but let go any tension once inside the playing circle.

Always remember to breathe!
